Our Beeginning

Old Glory Bees and Honey is a Maine based small business owned and operated by Bev and JJ Stevens out of West Paris.
The husband and wife team began their beekeeping adventure as a hobby, initiated from a recommendation to help cope with the effects of PTSD, anxiety and stress. They based the business name on their patriotic foundation and JJ’s service in the military. Bev is a 9-1-1 dispatcher-a first, first responder and JJ is a Combat Veteran, having served in the United States Army, both careers that foster stress, anxiety and mental health challenges. The connection of nature and honeybees especially, is becoming a well known form of therapy for many mental health issues with the benefits of self care, self awareness, calming techniques and reconnecting to nature to balance emotions and wellbeing. Old Glory Bees and Honey has the utmost respect for veterans and first responders and they look forward to sharing the healing power of beekeeping for the purpose of connecting veterans to those who are most in need of them. The peace of nature and bees in the hives is something overlooked by many for self healing and reflection.

Old Glory Bees and Honey is always looking for new information, classes, education and updates in the industry and they have dedicated mentors that have been in business for many years to help guide them. They are members of Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club, the Maine State Beekeepers Association and their hives are registered with the states of Maine. The local beekeeping community is ever changing and they strive to stay updated on new updates and also preserve past practices for honey bee health.
Old Glory Bees and Honey is also unique to the beekeeping business by involving many private landowners who enjoy bees but don’t have the time or desire to take on the responsibility of maintaining hives themselves-see more detail on our beehives page. Also unique to them is the plan to bring together a collection of Maine small beekeepers/hobbyists to share information, supplies, education, resources and a community of local products. Their beehives are kept in the immediate area of Oxford county and several towns in southern Androscoggin county. The health benefits to their customers looking for locally sourced honey has been noted consistently. They strive to remain a Maine based business and are looking forward to providing queens and nucs for sale from their apiary.
